Torkham Border Crossing Point Now Will Remain Open 24/7
PESHAWAR: The completion of Asian Development Bank-funded Central Asian Regional Economic Corridor (CAREC) border crossing point project at Torkham would open a new vista of trade and business activities in the region, said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan on Wednesday.

As the chief minister visited Torkham, the FBR, Immigration, FC and NLC authorities briefed on the elaborate operational arrangements for 24/7 opening of Pak-Afghan border.

The step has been taken on Prime Minister Imran Khan's directives to boost bilateral trade between the two countries.

Besides deputing more staff, the number of CCTV cameras has been increased from 67 to 96 to monitor inside out movement of vehicles loaded with containers.

It is said that 13,000 people and 1,155 vehicles use the Torkham border point every day.

Talking to media, Arbab Shehzad, advisor to the PM, said Imran was keenly interested in enhancing not only bilateral but also international trade with the Central Asian States, adding that efforts were afoot to extend all possible facilities for traders and transporters as well as passengers at Torkham.

To a query, Arbab said the Afghan government had also been taken on board to make reciprocal arrangements across the border.
