Senate Committee Wants A Survey To Ascertain The Process Used For Getting White Sugar
ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology the other day gave directions to conduct a survey by taking a sample of sugar mills and sending questionnaires to ascertain what methods are being used for processing after which we get white sugar.

The meeting was surprised to know that there was no facility in the country to ascertain whether children’s toys or water straws were being made from hospital waste.

The committee was informed that the Ministry of Science and Technology had approached NAB to get the possession of precious PCSIR [Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research] land in Lahore.

It was said that two pieces of land – 17 and 21 kanal at separate locations – amounting to approximately 40 million dollars were illegally occupied by mafia and being misused in activities not related to the institution’s mandate.

The committee was told that the same land after taking back possession would be used for projects in public-private partnership mode for science and technology initiatives.
