ISLAMABAD: Following the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan is mulling the closure of airspace for Indian air traffic and to prohibit India from using Pakistan’s land route for trade with Afghanistan.
“PM is considering a complete closure of Air Space to India, a complete ban on use of Pakistan Land routes for Indian trade to Afghanistan was also suggested in cabinet meeting,” the minister said in a tweet.
“Legal formalities for these decisions are under consideration… #Modi has started we’ll finish!”, he added.
This issue was discussed in detailed during the meeting as relations between India and Pakistan turned sour after the former revoked Indian occupied Kashmir’s (IoK) special constitutional status.
If implemented, the move would add a new angle to Islamabad’s offensive against New Delhi after the recent Indian move to claim occupied Kashmir as its own territory. Pakistan has already severed diplomatic ties with India and has also suspended bilateral trade.
Pakistan had also imposed a restriction on Indian flights earlier this year after a standoff with India on the Line of Control that divides Azad Kashmir and IoK.
