Activist Amina Masood Janjua, met with Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, on Friday to discuss the concern of missing persons in Pakistan, Dawn News reported.
"Our hearts go with the families of missing persons being Pakistanis. However we must realise that not every person missing is attributable to [the] state," an ISPR statement following the meeting read.
The military's media wing, in its statement, also claimed that the people that the state have detained are “under legal process", adding that many of the missing persons may have "gotten killed fighting as part of TTP against the state of Pakistan". It further added that many of the missing persons "are [...] part of TTP (Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan) in Afghanistan and may be in other conflict zones elsewhere".
Janjua is the chairperson of the Defence of Human Rights in Pakistan, a private organisation, working for recovery of people that have been illegally detained. According to the ISPR statement, Maj Gen Ghafoor told the activist of the government and security forces efforts in resolving the issue of missing persons, including the formation of a special assistance cell at GHQ, Rawalpindi to assist their families.
