Islamabad: Minister for Human Rights, Shireen Mazari has relieved previously appointed Human Rights Focal Person, Iftikhar Lund from his duties.
Minister Mazari confirmed on twitter that Lund will no longer serve as the HR focal person and regretted her decision in the first place. The minister posted the notification on her official twitter handle.

"On re-investigation and in the light of new evidence I have removed Iftikhar Lund as our focal person on human rights in Sindh. I also wish to express my regret over the earlier notification,"said the minister.
It is pertinent to mention here that Lund`s appointment received severe backlash earlier on as he was accused of torturing one of his drivers by inserting an iron rod.
Iftikhar Lund was appointed on July 12, 2019. An earlier notification read,"This will be purely on a voluntary basis and shall entail no expense or liability on the part of the ministry of human rights,”.
Many including activist Jibran Nasir took Lund`s appointment notification to twitter demanding Mazari for a reasonable justification on how the accused has been given such a position.

Former Ambassador to The United States and Pakistan Peoples Party Senator, Sherry Rehman pointed out the inhumane act of Lund followed by his subsequent appointment.

The FIR lodged against Lund stated that the victim was sodomised by Lund with an iron rod. He was then beaten up by Lund, Ahmed, Rafiq Lund and Mumtaz Ali. It is important to note that Rafiq and Ali were Lund’s employees.
The video of the victim narrating his ordeal made rounds on social media before the matter caught attention of relevant stakeholder.
