Opposition Nominates Hasil Bizenjo As Chairman Senate
Islamabad: Members of the opposition parties nominated National Party`s Hazil Bizenjo on Thursday for the slot of Chairman Senate. The opposition members have been working out a name to replace the incumbent Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

The decision comes from the Rehbar Committee, which was formed last month to counter government measures. The committee in question primarily involves opposition leaders from Pakistan People`s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League (PMLN), Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) and others.

The Express Tribune reports that the Rehbar Committee gave its approval for Bizenjo’s nomination while ousted premier Nawaz Shari also expressed confidence in nominating the NP leader.

Opposition members had already submitted a no-trust motion against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani to the secretary of the Upper House.

“For the first time, a no-trust motion against a Senate chairman has been submitted. We will take the procedure further from here as per the law,” said Secretary Senate Mohammad Anwar.

Bizenjo, chairman of the National Party hails from the province of Balochistan. He remained a strong ally of the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during his tenure from 2013 onwards.

Bizenjo is considered to be a seasoned politician, he remains a strong critic of the Balochistan Awami Party which currently rules the province in coalition with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The opposition nominee held the Ministry of Maritime Affairs portfolio in Shahid Khaqan Abbasi`s cabinet.
