Under Trial Prisoner Dies In Distrcit Jail Malir
KARACHI: An under trial prisoner, Sagheer Tanoli, died under controversial circumstances inside district jail Malir. According to Dawn, Tanoli's relatives claim that he had died due to torture by jail officials.

Prison authorities claimed that Tanoli was brought in 'injured' and died during treatment at jail hospital. Tanoli was arrested by Saeedabad police earlier where he was charged with several cases pertaining to theft and trespassing.



According to Dawn, Tanoli was charged under the sections 380 (theft in a dwelling house, etc), 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit an offense punishable with imprisonment), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Tanoli's brother Kabeer told Dawn that Kabeer was a Hafiz-e-Quran and worked in a superstore in Naval colony near Gulshan-i-Mazdoor.

As per reports, Tanoli was taken into custody on June 11 allegedly on the orders of his employer. The police further 'tortured' him as per claims of Tanoli's family.

He was confirmed dead in the early hours on June 21. While SSP-West (Investigation) Abid Ali Baloch told Dawn that the police had initiated an inquiry to verify torture claims by Tanoli's family.
