Indian Nobel Laureate, Amartya Sen expressed his contentions with New Delhi`s attitude towards Indian Occupied Kashmir. Sen interviewed by India Today said, “It is the biggest blot on Indian democracy. There is no question about that. There are a number of claimants to that position of being a blot. It is a case that figures a lot in foreign discussions. On my first night when I came here, along with CNN coverage on the brutality of policing and law and order were aired.”
Sen While presenting a historical context added that, “We have mishandled it for a number of decades. Right now, we are mishandling it very badly indeed”.
Sen emphasized on the fact that New Delhi`s policies tilted towards stability and law and order is not the solution to IOK`s problem, in fact, it is the people of Kashmir, New Delhi has to win. He severely criticized Modi`s BJP lead government in handling IOK affairs.
Various Pakistani politicians including Shireen Mazari, Mushahid Hussain, Sherry Rehman and etc tweeted the Nobel Laurette`s comments.
On the Indian front, Sen`s comments resulted in a yet another Indian twitter debacle where proponents and opponents of his arguments indulged in a debate regarding the veracity of Sen`s analysis. and comments.
