Muslim Man In India Lynched On Suspicion Of Theft, Succumbs To Injuries

A 24-years-old Muslim man namely Tabrez Ansari was beaten up in Kharsawan district of Jharkhand on June 18. According to reports, he was mercilessly beaten for almost 18 hours before being handed over to the police. Ansari died in a local hospital on Saturday.

According to India Today, Ansari worked in Pune as a welder and had to come to his village in Jharkhand to celebrate Eid with his family.

The incident caught attention when a video showing a mob lynching Ansari where the latter is begging for mercy went viral on social media.

The Twitter handle @imMAK02 tweeted,

“When he told his name to the mob, then mob beat him up brutally. Yesterday he died … Welcome to … Hindu Rashtra 2.0.”

In another video uploaded by the same Twitter handle, Ansari is being forced to say Hindu Chants, “Jai Shri Ram” (hail the deity Ram) and “Jai Hanuman” (hail the deity Hanuman).

In recent years, India has witnessed a rise in lynching incidents all across the country. In another incident in Delhi, a Muslim man was beaten up for not saying Hindu phrases.

According to a prominent Muslim member parliament, Asaduddin Owaisi,

“Incidents of mob lynching aren’t going to stop because BJP & RSS have increased the sense of hatred against Muslims. They’ve successfully created a mindset where Muslims are seen as terrorists, anti-nationals & cow slaughters.”

The online reaction to the incident observed that previously lynching incidents occurred in the name of cow, now the same is going on for Hindu phrases like ‘Jai Shri Ram”.
