An aeroplane flew above the Headingley cricket ground in Leeds, England during the Pakistan vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup match on Saturday.
There was a banner flying behind the plane displaying the message "Justice for Balochistan". Moments later, there was another plane displaying the message "Help end disappearances in Pakistan".
Naturally pictures of the plane vent viral on social media but the international cricketing body ICC wasn’t happy at the incident.
"We work with local police forces around the country to prevent this type of incident occurring and were assured that given Headingley is under the flight path for the Leeds Bradford Airport it would not be an issue. We do not condone any sort of political messages at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and will work with West Yorkshire police to deal with and understand why this has happened and to ensure it doesn't happen again." an ICC statement read.
Enforced disappearances are common in Balochistan, but aren't exclusive to the province.Over 2,000 registered cases remain unresolved. In January 2019 Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights submitted a draft bill to the Ministry of Law and Justice to criminalize enforced disappearances, however whether substantial progress is made remains to be seen.
