It is pertinent to mention here that back in the day when Siddique was appointed as an ambassador to the United States, the appointment met with severe criticism from multiple circles including Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf, which was in opposition at that point in time.

Part of the criticism towards Siddiqui included his lack of diplomatic experience and pending accountability cases as Siddiqui was already under NAB`s radar when the appointment was made.

Fawad Chaudhry who was PTI`s information secretary back in 2018 said in a letter that,

“World’s most important diplomatic post was an attempt to murder the national interest.”

The letter further alleged involvement in mega corruption cases and ties with the Sharif family resulting in Siddiqui`s favor.
