Commission Formed For Investigating Ballooning Debts To Submit Final Report Within 6 Months
Terms of references (ToR) have been announced by the government under which the Commission of Inquiry will investigate the ballooning of foreign debts to Rs24,000 billion during the previous 10 years, Dawn News reported.

The Commission of Inquiry will submit interim reports of progress every month and a final report within six months, a Cabinet Division notification read. However, the deadline of six months ”can be extended with the prior approval of the prime minister".

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Hussain Asgha will head the 12-member committee.The commission has been "further empowered to co-opt/engage any person from public or private sector, locally and abroad as a member, consultant or adviser for the assistance of the commission", the notification added,

The commission’s responsibilities will include, determining the significance of major infrastructure or public sector development projects undertaken between 2008 to 2018 and investigating the "terms and conditions of any public contract were tainted or benevolent or artificially inflated to facilitate any kick-backs".

The commission will also probe if any public office holders or their relatives used public funds for personal expenditures "beyond what has been permitted under the law".
