A social media activist Muhammad Bilal Khan was on Sunday night murdered in Islamabad. According to a police official, Khan received a call from an unidentified person and was asked to come to G-9. Khan, accompanied by his uncle Ehtesham, met the person who reportedly took him into the forest where he hacked him to death. Ehtisham was also seriously injured in the attack. The police official also told that there was sound of hearing heard from the area at the time of murder, as revealed during the investigations. Bilal Khan was not only critical of the state institutions, he would often post videos of himself discussing religious topics, dealing with sectarian issues. Bilal Khan’s death received widespread condemnation. Marvi Sirmed said that she often disagreed with what Bilal said but there was no justification for violence. Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations department of the army, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor also condemned the murder. Social media activist Ahmad Waqass Goraya also strongly condemned the murder, saying that Bilal had run a campaign against him when he had been abducted in 2017 but it had everything to do with the kind of education and upbringing he received and the murder could not be justified in any way.
