'Baaji' Secures 4th Biggest Opening Of 2019
Saqib Malik directorial debut ‘Baaji’ roped in Rs 90 lacs on its opening day making it the 4th biggest opening for 2019. The top three spots go to 'Wrong No 2', 'Chhalawa' and 'SherDil', an entertainment website reported.

The film stars Meera as an actress (Shameera) past her prime, desperate to remain relevant in an an age-obsessed industry. The plot revolves around Shameera as she faces her insecurities and fights to stay in the spotlight.

'Baaji' is being touted as Meera’s comeback film and stars Amna Ilyas, Osman Khalid Butt alongside Mohsin Abbas Haider and Ali Kazmi in pivotal roles. Ilyas plays a beautician who later becomes Meera's manager and Osman Khalid plays the role of a Hollywood director Rohail

The film has received praise from audiences for its distinctive plot, solid performances, able direction/cinematography and lively music but has received mixed reviews from critics. Sonia Ashraf writes in Dawn Images: ''If the film focused solely on the main plot of Shameera's fading career and her insecurities, I believe Saqib Malik's directorial debut, Baaji, would have been a very important film for the Pakistan film industry...if it didn’t waste so much time on subplots and redundant characters."

However, Meera has been receiving praise for her portrayal of Shameera, the film is being compared to Rajkumar Harani's 'Sanju' as the actor has gone through similar situations like the protagonist in Baaji.
