KARACHI: They are protesting for the recovery of the Shia missing persons with a hope that they could make the government pay attention to their plight, but instead the police have registered an FIR against all of them and arrested 38 relatives of these missing persons.
It happened in Karachi as they have been staging a sit-in outside the residence of President Arif Alvi in the Bahadurabad area of the city for over a week now.
The FIR says the accused persons [around 250 to 300 protesters] chanted slogans against the government and the armed forces, committed a crime and inciting violence against the state.
It says the top authorities repeatedly asked them to wind up the protest but they didn’t even receive the notices.
The police have nominated five people as well as 250-300 unknown persons over a host of charges ranging from riots to waging war against the country.
The sections invoked against the protesters include 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting the waging of war against Pakistan), 121-A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by Section 121), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief) and 503 (criminal intimidation).
