At last funds have been released for the payment of salaries of the South Waziristan Khasadar force after remaining blocked for the last 10 months, The Express Tribune reported.

The Khasadar force members had stopped working after they did not get salaries for such a long period of time.

The finance department in the light of directions of the Ambassador Ministry has released funds, Deputy Commissioner Noman Afzal Afridi stated.

Over Rs1 billion have been initially issued for the payment of salaries of 4,000 Khasadar force, said Afridi.

Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in April announced immediate merger of Levies and Khasadar forces into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in order to bring tribal districts under the merger plan.

The chief minister stated that a notification had been issued in this regard adding that the entire process would be conducted in a transparent manner.

He said that 28,000 personnel of both the forces would benefit from this decision.
