NA Approves Bill Seeking Increase In KP Assembly Seats For FATA
The National Assembly on Monday unanimously approved the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill which seeks an increase in the number of National Assembly and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats for the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his appreciation over the unity shown by the government and the opposition over the bill. Khan also highlighted that the erstwhile Fata was not receiving funds it deserved. He said that the kind of damage that has been inflicted upon Fata cannot be countered solely by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's own funds.

"A big accident, the separation of East Pakistan, led to a sense of deprivation among the people. All of Pakistan should learn a lesson from that. No one should feel that Pakistan does not own them, that they do not have a stake in Pakistan," Khan said, adding that a sense of deprivation was dangerous as it could be exploited by enemies of Pakistan.

As the prime minister concluded his speech, Speaker Asad Qaiser called for a vote on the bill, and then on different sections of the bill.

On May 11, members of the government and opposition benches agreed to pass the bill with 2/3rd majority. The National Assembly session was also attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Although the two parties exchanged some harsh words, they urged each other to express unity on important matters such as the Fata bill and other issues.

The bill was introduced by MNA Mohsin Dawar but was not passed in the first day because opposition demanded a thorough and healthy debate over the matter.
