Police on Thursday arrested a suspect - who along with unknown aides had allegedly set a girl ablaze after she refused to marry him - in an attempted murder case.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the mother of the 16-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire for refusing a marriage proposal. Police said that the victim, whose face, body and arms were badly burnt, was shifted to the burn unit of the hospital.
According to the girl's mother, she woke up at 1:30am when she heard screams of her daughter. She also said that she saw two men pouring oil on her daughter and setting her on fire before fleeing the scene. Other relatives also came to their house and helped put out the fire.
The mother said that the suspect's parents had come to their house days earlier asking for her daughter's hand, but the marriage proposal was rejected.
On Wednesday, Pashto singer Mina was killed by her husband in Mingora on Wednesday over a domestic dispute.
Shaukat Ali opened fire at his wife, Mina, over a domestic issue, leaving her seriously injured. Police have registered a case against the husband and are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
“She succumbed to her injuries in the hospital while her husband fled the scene. The police started searching for the accused after registering a case against him,” SHO Banr police station Tariq said.
