Pakistani opener Imam-ul-Haq scored a stunning 150+ against England in the third One-Day International (ODI) of the 5-match series between the two countries. While doing so, Imam broke a 36-year-old record.
Imam became the youngest player to score more than 150 runs at the age of 23 in England, breaking former Indian captain Kapil Dev's 1983 record of scoring 175 at the age of 24.
He struck 16 fours and a six to score 151 runs off 131 balls. He went on to score his sixth hundred in 27 ODIs, leading Pakistan to a total of 359 runs for England. He surpassed his previous ODI best of 128 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo last year.
Although England went on to comfortably chase down a total of 359 runs with 31 balls and 6 wickets remaining. This was England’s second highest winning total batting second in an ODI.
Speaking about his innings, Imam said that he was happy, but it would have been better had Pakistan won the match. "I am really happy to have scored another hundred and broken a record, but I would have been happier if Pakistan would have won the match."
The 23-year-old said that Pakistan knows England are going to come hard at the visitors but the green shirts are fully prepared for the remaining games and for the world cup. "We know England are going to come hard at us, and we have to bowl better and play better cricket to win."
Pakistan will face England in the fourth ODI at Trent Bridge on Friday.
