The Senate Standing Committee met with top leadership of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) on Tuesday to hold discussions on several matters of concern, Senator Mushahid Hussain tweeted.
The PTM delegation was invited by the Senate committee to address Parliamentarians. Senator Mushahid Hussain described the meeting as 'candid and cordial', where 'articulate' and 'charismatic' Manzoor Pashteen gave detailed presentation on developments in FATA. MNA Mohsin Dawar was also present.
The 3-hour-long meeting was fruitful, said Mushahid, adding that dialogue was the only way forward. "3-hour marathon session saw receptive response to what the PTM leadership stated about redressing grievances, reversing wrongs/taking concrete policy measures to alleviate long-standing problems, with Senate Committee serving as bridge,since dialogue on issues is the way forward."
Mushahid said that the Senators showed willing to listen and learn to reservations and demands of the PTM. He said that the dialogue with PTM was a 'glimmer of hope' and a sign for positive things to come.
"Senators said ‘we want to listen and learn’; this first step of dialogue with PTM in the premises of Parliament is a ‘glimmer of hope’, plus positive signs are PTM now also in Parliament, upcoming elections in FATA and welcome change in Pakistan Afghan Policy, discarding old mindset," Mushahid said.
Journalist Hamid Mir said that the meeting was 'good to see'. "Good to see PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen and Mohsin Dawar in Parliament House Islamabad with representatives of different political parties standing under the portrait of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah."
