The South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR) network has raised deep concerns over the condition of Pakistani and Indian fisherman arrested for trespassing the territorial waters. SAHR said that some fishermen face prolonged detention and some cases lead to death on foreign soil.
SAHR's statement has come after two Pakistanis and one Indian fisherman died in custody in their neighbouring countries.
A Pakistani prisoner in an Indian jail was on March 27 beaten to death by the authorities. The 80-years-old hailed from 100 Quarters in Ali Akbar Shah Goth of Korangi and was arrested in 2017 when his boat entered Indian waters by mistake.
"SAHR understands that the livelihoods of Indian and Pakistani fishermen are in grave danger due to the dearth of fish caused by pollution and excessive fishing which results in them trespassing into territorial waters of neighbouring countries," the statement said.

"In Pakistan and India, there are long bureaucratic delays during detention and some fishermen are not released even after the prison sentence is completed due to delays in the identification process of the relevant High Commission," it was added.
SAHR continued that both Pakistani and Indian governments delay handing over the mortal remains.
The regional human rights network urged the governments on both sides to probe the cases and facilitate release of prisoners. It was also requested that medical teams be sent to jails in both India and Pakistan for regular check-ups and that in case of any emergency, immediate medical attention be provided.
SAHR also called for a proper bilateral solution to the issue.
