The government of Pakistan has vowed not to be part of any internal conflict in Afghanistan.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister House said that both Pakistan and Afghanistan have suffered a lot due the conflict during the past 40 years.
The statement also emphasized on the importance of the Intra-Afghan dialogue saying that the people of Afghanistan will decide the future of the country and the talks have opened doors for peace in the region.
The statement also said that Pakistan was ‘dismayed’ due to the rise in violence in Afghanistan from all sides.
“Pakistan is highly dismayed by the surge of violence in Afghanistan from all sides. The so-called offensives are condemnable and will undermine the peace process,” the statement said.
“Pakistan has committed all diplomatic and security capital for the success of the peace process and the country would no longer be a part of any internal conflict in Afghanistan”.
More civilians in Afghanistan have been killed by the country’s own forces and the United States (US) than by the Taliban, a new document issued by the United Nations (UN) reveals.
In the first three months of 2019, the pro-government forces were involved in 54% civilian deaths, UN’s quarterly report revealed. UN’s special representative for Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto said that the latest revelations were ‘shocking’.
Last week, the much-awaited Afghan talks with the Taliban that were to have been hosted by the Qatari capital on April 20 were cancelled.
The two-day meeting was called off at the last minute after insurgent officials objected to the unusually large size of the 250-member Afghan delegation.
