Jamia Hafsa Sealed, New Khateeb Appointed; Federal Admin Informs SC
The administration of federal capital has informed the Supreme Court that the site for the construction of Jamia Hafsa, a women religious seminary of Lal Masjid, located in H-11, has been sealed by the authorities and a new Khateeb has been appointed in place of Maulana Abdul Aziz.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) chief commissioner submitted the reply in compliance with the apex court's directives.

On March 12, a three-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, hearing a set of petitions, had directed the authorities to explain how the government owned land of 20 kanal had been allotted for rebuilding Jamia Hafsa.

These petitions included, alleged extra judicial killings of innocent persons in the premises of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa, Lal Masjid Commission's report, miscellaneous applications by individuals for missing persons, Lal Masjid Operation by Military Force and contempt of court applications on non-compliance of the top court’s 2007 orders.

The report also stated that a khateeb appointed by the Auqaf department is conducting prayers at the Lal Masjid adding that no unauthorised person is allowed to lead the prayers.

“The site allocated for Jamia Hafsa in Sector H-11 has been sealed because the construction was raised without prior approval of the competent authority and without seeking non-objection certificate (NOC) from the Directorate of Building Control.”

Around 50 to 60 female students from the Jamia Hafsa’s temporary base at G-7 in Islamabad continue to visit the Lal Masjid.

“The district administration and police are handling the situation with restraint since female students are involved."

It has been further revealed that Aziz along with some 100 female students attempted to enter the mosque on the night between March 19 and 20.

"Their attempt to restart construction was thwarted by the administration and police."
