Superior Court Judges Will Now Be Proceeded Against Over 'Inefficient' Disposal Of Cases
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in a groundbreaking move has decided to act against superior court judges for ‘inefficient’ disposal of cases which is in violation of Article X of the Judges’ Code of Conduct.

'In this judicial work a Judge shall take all steps to decide cases within the shortest time, controlling effectively efforts made to prevent early disposal of cases and make every endeavor to minimize suffering of litigants by deciding cases expeditiously through proper written judgments. A Judge who is unmindful or indifferent towards this aspect of his duty is not faithful to his work, which is a grave fault," the article reads.

The SJC is the only constitutional body with the power to remove superior court judges that have violated the Judges’ Code of Conduct. Though the body over the last three years has issued several show-cause notices to judges over various charges of misconduct, no superior court judge was issued a show cause under the above mentioned article, that is until now.

According to a report in Express Tribune, the SJC under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa, has issued a show cause notice to a Lahore High Court judge for 'slow progress in deciding cases.'

“It is an essential step in judicial accountability and if executed fairly and transparently, it will significantly improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our judicial system,” a Pakistan Bar Council executive member told the publication.
