‘I Don’t Know What’s Happening To Me’: Naqeebullah Mehsud’s Wife Recalls Husband's Final Words
Over a year after Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder in an ‘encounter’, his wife has revealed details of her final conversation with her husband before he was killed.

She said that the last time she talked to Naqeebullah, he seemed disturbed, but asked for a video of his son, who had just started walking. Naqeeb’s wife promised to send him a video soon since the son wasn’t around at the time of their conversation.

But Naqeebullah couldn’t see his son taking his first few steps.

“Throughout the conversation, I could sense that he was disturbed. Before shutting the phone, he said that he doesn't know what is happening to him. He can't bring himself to come back home,” Naqeeb’s wife said.

She did not hear from him for some days, and said she was mad at Naqeebullah for not speaking to her. “I was angry, to tell you the truth. But I didn't know at that time that Rao Anwar had taken him away from me.”

She talked about Naqeebullah’s four months in Karachi. She said that Naqeebullah’s could not find a suitable job during his first four months in Karachi and had to live with family members or friends.

Naqeeb had also made quite a lot of friends during his construction work.

She said Naqeeb loved dressing up and grooming. “He loved to dress up, so I would always tease him saying that he took more time than brides to get ready.”

“Naqeebullah wasn't just my husband and caretaker, he was my friend. My best friend. They say such people, such good-hearted people, don't live long. Maybe they are right,” she said.

On March 25, an anti-terrorism court in Karachi indicted former Malir SSP Rao Anwar and other suspects in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

Naqeebullah was killed on January 13, 2018. Thirteen police officials have been arrested in the case while five, including Anwar, are on bail.
