Conor McGregor Calls Khabib’s Veiled Wife ‘A Towel’, Causes Social Media Outrage
Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor has put himself in hot waters again after his recent comments against rival Khabib Nurmagomedov's wife caused social media uproar.

McGregor on Wednesday tweeted a picture of Nurmagomedov's wedding day - in which his wife is wearing a veil - and called his wife 'a towel'. The Irishman deleted the tweet 15 minutes later knowing that he had crossed the line this time around.

Former two-weight UFC titleholder McGregor is famed for his close-to-the-knuckle trash talk and vitriolic rants at opponents, but social media users believe the tweet was in an extremely bad taste.

"McGregor absolutely crossed the line. This is far beyond trash talk, far beyond goading. Most people wouldn't get away with it in sport, on social media, or anywhere else - but he will."

"I like you bro (McGregor), but creating hate filled rhetoric towards another ethnicity or religion is a part of the many problems with the world. It crossed a line. Do be a part of the problem be a part of the solution."

Others believe that McGregor's tweet was 'Islamophobic' and 'Racist'.

Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov also responded to McGregor's derogatory comments.

"Rapist, you are Rapist. You are a hypocrite who is not responsible for your actions. Justice will find you. We will see," Khabib Tweeted, referring to accusations of sexual assault against the Irishman.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White has intervened and said that the back-and-forth social media action between the two was going out of hands and it must come to an end.

He has also talked to the teams of both the fighters and urged de-escalation.

McGregor, who announced his retirement from MMA earlier this month, is campaigning for a rematch against Khabib. The two met in October last year inside the cage. Khabib scored a dominant win over McGregor, choking him out in the fourth round.
