Asad Durrani Takes U-Turn In Asghar Khan Case

Ex-ISI chief Asad Durrani has backtracked from his statement in Asghar Khan case, one of Pakistan’s longest pending political cases in which ex-ISI officers are accused of ‘political engineering’.

Durrani had filed an affidavit saying that ISI dished out Rs140m to a group of politicians and parties in 1990 to defeat PPP. Now, Durrani says he didn’t have accurate information and that he has no evidence to back his earlier claim.

On the other hand, Defence Ministry told SC that probe against three former ISI officers was ongoing. Among politicians who allegedly received funds are Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Nawaz Sharif, Jam Sadiq, Muhammad Khan Junejo and several others.

In 2012, SC in its judgment had directed federal govt to take necessary action against Asad Durrani and former COAS General (r) Aslam Baig but the case continued to linger on. In 2018, FIA was handed charge to thoroughly probe the case. Interestingly, 18 of the accused have already passed away.
