Top politicians, including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, have gotten richer, while a drop was witnessed in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s income.
According to Dawn, the PM’s net income has been witnessing a drop since 2015—with Rs35.6 million in 2015, the income dropped to Rs12.9m in 2016 and it further dropped to Rs4.7m in the year 2017.
The premier’s income was high in 2015 due to gain from him selling his flat in Clara Apartments in Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad and also from the foreign remittances.
On the other hand, the income of Shehbaz Sharif has witnessed an upward trend as his net income was Rs7.6m in 2015, Rs9.5m in 2016 and crossed Rs10m in 2017.
His son Hamza Shehbaz is richer than him and his income has grown more rapidly during the last few years. Hamza’s total income increased from Rs19.19m in 2015, to Rs21.52m in 2016 and Rs25.40m in 2017.
Similarly, Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s incomes also witnessed a surge. Bilawal is richer than his father when it comes to assets he holds but his net income is less than Zardari.
Most of the former president’s net income stood at Rs105m in 2015, which mainly comprises of agriculture income. The income increased to Rs114m in 2016 and surged to Rs134m in 2017.
Meanwhile, Bhutto-Zardari’s net income was more than Rs23m in 2015, and it witnessed over 100 per cent rise in 2016 as it was recorded to be Rs47.34m. The income surged due to the addition of foreign, agricultural and rental income.
In 2016, his agriculture and rental income witnessed an increase. However, his foreign and rental incomes slightly dropped.
