In a rare show of unity, the opposition and treasury members in the Punjab Assembly agreed over a bill that proposed increasing their salaries.
When the Punjab Public Representatives’ Laws (Amendment) Bill 2019 was tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Ghazanfar Abbas in the assembly, members from both opposition and treasury vigorously thumped their desks. The bill was immediately referred to the concerned committee and no one opposed it.
The bill seeks to increase salaries of the chief minister, ministers, speaker, deputy speaker and other members of the provincial assembly.
The provincial assembly’s members have been demanding an increase in salaries for a long time now, citing that their counterparts in other provinces receive much more salaries.
