‘We Were Not Taken Into Confidence’: Pakistan To Boycott OIC Meeting Over Invitation To India
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday announced that Pakistan will boycott the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Addressing a National Assembly session, Qureshi said that Pakistan would boycott the 46th OIC meeting because the country was not taken into confidence over invitation sent to India to be part of the conference. “We were not taken into confidence and neither do Turkey and Iran know about it,” he said.

“Pakistan has decided not to take part in the OIC conference because we were not told that India would be invited too. If India is granted status of an Observer Status, we will strongly protest and oppose it,” Qureshi said.

Earlier today, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that India has no moral or legal ground to be present at the OIC.

“India has consistently rejected OIC resolutions on the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, adopted at the OIC Foreign Ministers and Summit levels. Only last year, India rejected the OIC resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir by stating that India dismisses it with the contempt it deserves,” FO spokesperson said in an official statement.

He added that Pakistan’s reservations have been communicated to the relative authorities. He also said Pakistan is a peace loving country, but will retaliate to any aggression shown by the neighbouring country.

Tensions between the two countries have been soaring since the Pulwama Attack on February 14. On Tuesday, Indian jets intruded into Pakistan’s airspace and dropped payload in Balakot area. Later on Wednesday, two Indian jets were shot down, while a pilot was taken into custody.

As a peace gesture, the captured Wing Commander will be returned to India later today.
