PM Khan wanted to discuss the release of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman among other matters, but despite contacting three times, Modi did not respond.

Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan was arrested on Wednesday after his jet was shot down for intruding into Pakistan’s territory. In custody, the Indian pilot commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Army, calling them ‘thorough gentlemen’.

He said he was extremely impressed by Pakistan’s armed forces and that he would not change his statement if he returns to his country. “This is exactly how I expect my army to behave too,” he said.

Indian PM Narendra Modi has not said much about the entire Abhinandan saga, and is being criticized by several elements in the media and political circles of the neighbouring country for ‘using the soldiers for his political advantage’.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the nation and said that war was not the solution to the crisis. He offered peace talks again to India, stressing that the Kashmir issue could only be resolved via dialogue.

Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) also said that Pakistan wants peace and stability in the region but will go to any lengths to safeguard the sovereignty of the country.
