Noted Pashto poet Rahimudin Ulfat launched his first poetry volume titled ‘Daa Me Tol Qasoor Da Yaar De’ (Fault lies with my beloved), here on Tuesday. The Bacha Khan Markaz organised the launching ceremony of the said poetry collection at its main hall, where poets, writers, and artists attended the function.
Pakhtun magazine editor and researcher, Hayat Roghani, while introducing the guest writer said that the new poetry collection contained Pashto songs that truly depicted Pashtun culture and their everyday life. He said the songwriter had started his career in 2002 from writing Pashto songs for Radio Pakistan Peshawar. His first song was sung by Nazia Iqbal while debut album of his songs had come out in 2005.
“The poet has written hit songs for about 25 Pashto flicks till date. The poet has written countless songs, only five albums of those hit songs have come to the fore. He has used simple diction to express romantic feelings. His contribution for radio, TV, stage and film is huge and should be recognised. We must admire such writers and artists who contribute positively to our society,” Mr Roghani said.
Noted songwriter, Sirajudin Muhklis, at the event said songwriting and singing both were no less an art itself but few knew its significance and its right place. She said that the late popular Pashto folk singer, Rabia Tabbasum rose to unprecedented fame when she had sung ‘Daa Me Tol Qasoor Da Yaar De’ on radio back in 2010. She said quality music went with quality poetry and their interdependence created a pleasing effect on the audience.
Laiqzada Laiq, senior poet, while chairing the event said Mr Ulfat‘s maiden poetry collection carried popular numbers sung by noted Pashto folk singers and had already garnered widespread public appreciation. He said only a few Pashto songwriters were able to compose numbers reflective of Pakhtun culture and life and Mr Ulfat was of one of them.
Mr Laiq said Mr Ulfat had drawn inspiration from Murad Shinwari who had mastery over songwriting and also his poetry had imprints of classical Pashto poets like Abdul Hameed Baba and Ali Khan Baba who had been known for their strong romantic shades
Senior music composer Nazeer Gul Ustad remarked that almost every known artist had sung Mr Ulfat’s numbers because he had composed quality pieces, most befitting to the situation and registered immediate impact on the audience. He said music directors faced no problem in composition of poetry of poets like Rahimudin Ulfat because such songwriters knew the tunes of music and its instant effect.
Imran Ashna on the occasion stated that different mediums required different expertise when it came to write songs because a poet or writer can visualise the situation of the medium –radio, stage, TV and film. He said each had its own demands and Mr Ulfat had been successful in fulfilling those requirements and therefore, should be credited for his quality work.
ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain while gracing the event as the chief guest said that unprivileged artists and literati would always be honoured and the doors of Bacha Khan Markaz would remain open to literary and cultural activities. He said artists and poets were the soft image of Pakhtuns. “We have given many sacrifices for this day to stand with our culture and artists”, seasoned politician said. He further said, the popular people have no need of any public attention but the Bacha Khan Markaz has the legacy of picking the deprived and deserve people. To keep alive our culture with romance and love the writer and singer must focus on promoting nationalism too, Mian Iftikhar appealed the intellectuals.
Later, folk singers including Sitara Younas, Nadia Gul, Dilraj, Ashraf Gulzar, Nazneen Anwar, and Dilruba, lip-synched popular numbers of Mr Ulfat and received applause from the participants.
