The final test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh were called off following shootings at two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch.
Multiple people were shot dead in shootings at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch during Friday afternoon prayers.
Bangladesh cricket team, which is currently in New Zealand, “just escaped” as the mosque was near to where the team was scheduled to play the final test match of their tour of New Zealand.
Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has said that it was “frightening experience” but the entire team got saved.
Mushfiqar Rahim also took to Twitter and wrote, " Alhamdulillah Allah save us today while shooting in Christchurch in the mosque...we r extremely lucky...never want to see these things happen again....pray for us."
Taking to Twitter, New Zealand Cricket Board said that a joint decision by Bangladesh and New Zealand has been taken to cancel the match.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by the shocking situation in Christchurch,” the board said.
“A joint decision between NZC and the @BCBtigers has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test. Again both teams and support staff groups are safe,” the board added.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board said: “All members of the Bangladesh Cricket Team in Christchurch, are safely back in the hotel following the incident of shooting in the city. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is in constant contact with the players and team management.”
