Indian Tech Tycoon Commits Another US$7Billion To Philanthropy
India’s IT Czar and Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has committed another $7.5Billion to philanthropic activities, a company statement said on Wednesday.

According to a story published in NewsD, Premji has committed another 34 percent of Wipro Ltd shares worth Rs52,750 crores, ($7.5Billion) to the welfare of humanity. With his latest commitment, Azim Premi has committed a total of Rs 145,000 crore ($21Billion) to philanthropic activities.

Azemji has committed a total of US$21Billion to Philanthropy.



“Azim Premji has increased his commitment to philanthropy, by irrevocably renouncing more of his personal assets and earmarking them to the endowment, which supports Azim Premji Foundation’s philanthropic activities,” the company statement said.

The company aims to improve the public education sector by improving the school infrastructure and teaching. Currently the field work in education is spread across Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh, along with some work in the northeastern states.

Not only that, as many as 150 non-profit organizations have received grants from the company for development in various sectors. The Foundation’s activities are expected to grow in the coming years and the team number is also expected to rise from 1600 to more.

Azim Premji also has a university in his name in Bengaluru and aims to establish another one in a different part of the country to educate the country’s lesser privileged children.
