A professor in India was forced to kneel and issue a public apology over a Facebook post praising Prime Minster Imran Khan and criticising Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for “creating a war-like situation”.
According to details, Sandeep Wathar, a professor of civil engineering in a college in Karnataka, was forced by members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), all India student organisation affiliated with the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), to kneel and apologise over an alleged "anti-India" message on social media.
Wathar questioned the BJP government for creating a war-like situation in the now-deleted Facebook posts and had praised PM Khan for his stand amid escalation of tensions between Pakistan and India.
In the second post, he slammed "bhakts" for escalating tension and creating a war-like situation.
"Who sounds more intelligent in all this? You bhakts. You will [be] the reason for the destruction of millions of lives if this tension escalates. BJPabsolutely zero shame," Warthar had said in the post.
The BJP and ABVP had demanded the professor’s resignation over the post, however, the college management persuaded Wathar to issue public apology. Although the incident occurred in the presence of a police constable, no case has been registered so far.
