Here's Why You Should Attend Aurat March
Last year, women activists marked International Women's Day in Pakistan by participating in an Aurat March in various cities. The march celebrates women and is a rebellion against patriarchy and repressive societal norms. The march held last year was a hit as it brought out the repressed effects of patriarchy among men around us, including them getting outraged when they were told "khud khana garam ker lo" (Heat your own food).

This year too women are all set to reclaim public spaces and raise their voice against patriarchy. Here are some of the the reasons you should attend the march:

Celebrate women:

Pakistan has had fierce women, who despite cultural boundaries, made names for themselves and it's about time we celebrate them.

These are just a few names among many others. You could also celebrate and commend your 'mothers, sisters and daughters' for having enough courage to bash patriarchy every day; be it in households, streets or schools.

Celebrate diversity:

The Aurat March in Pakistan doesn't just celebrate women but also celebrate other marginalised groups of the society as it is against "violence, oppression, harassment, police brutality, transphobia, regression, sexism and intolerance in all its forms".

Speak up for your rights:

Reclaim public spaces and say NO to repressive societal norms.

Here are few demands set forth by the organisers of the Aurat March:

You can also demand an end to mansplaining!

Emancipation for all:

And last but most important one: if you think that no one could truly be emancipated without the liberation of all then you should definitely attend the March.

Here are few do's and don'ts for making posters for the march:
