Restaurant Sealed In Karachi After 5 Children Die Of 'Food Poisoning'
5 children of the same family died on Thursday due to suspected food poisoning after dining at restaurant in Karachi’s Saddar area.

According to police officials, the family reached Karachi from Quetta at 11:30pm last night and were staying at a guest house in Saddar and ordered food from a nearby restaurant.

Half-an-hour later, the mother, paternal-aunt and children fell ill and were rushed to the hospital. The children were pronounced dead, while the other two are in critical condition. The police has sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and the cause of death could only be confirmed after.

Superintendent Police Gulshan Tahir Noorani said the cause of the children’s death appears to be food poisoning, according to initial investigation into the incident. The authorities also said that the family had consumed food from a restaurant in Khuzdar while travelling.

The police said it would track down food consumed by the family from all the spots during their travel from Quetta to Karachi.

The restaurant has been sealed by the Punjab Food Authority and a report has been submitted to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Last year in November, two children under 5 died from suspected food poisoning. The two had dined out at a local eastery in Zamama area.
