Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is looking to introduce reforms to make it easier for people to come and invest in the country. He also said that Pakistan has great scope for tourism and the industry can offer great benefits.

PM Khan said the above while addressing the World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He also talked about several issues facing the country and the plans of the PTI government.

Economic Situation Improving In Pakistan

Speaking at the Summit, Imran Khan said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government aims to cut down the fiscal deficit, improve the exports and reduce imports.

Khan said that Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan advised him to allow businesses to make money which will in return boost investments. “If businesses make money, only then more people will invest in a country. We are working on ease of business. We are changing our tax laws,” he said.

Khan said Pakistan has started making it easier for investors to do business in Pakistan and that the country was introducing reforms to that end. “The situation is improving. Investors are coming to Pakistan and this is the time, I believe, that the country will take off,” he said.

On The Scope Of Tourism In Pakistan

PM Khan also talked about the scope of tourism, specially religious tourism in Pakistan. He said that the country had everything from lush-green valleys to mountain ranges to historical monuments. “We have the most highest peaks, we have the Indus Valley Civilization and the scope of tourism is immense,” he said.

But what Pakistan had more than any other country was religious tourism spots, Khan added. “We have the Mecca and Madina of the Sikh religion. Thousands of them come to Pakistan each year to visit various spots in the country,” He said.

You Only Lose When You Give Up

Prime Minister Khan said that the most important lesson he learned as a sportsman was that “you only lose when you give up”. “When I started playing cricket, Pakistan was not among the world’s best, but when I left cricket, Pakistan was the world champion,” Khan said, adding that a person only loses when he or she gives up.

He also said that he grew up in a Pakistan that was a model for the developing world.

“I just met Sheikh Muhammad and he again reminded me that Emirates airlines was helped by the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in the 70s. Pakistan was a country with hope and optimism, we grew up rapidly, our bureaucracy was the best in Asia. That was the Pakistan I grew up in.”

Good Governance Is Vital For Development

Khan said that good governance was key to the development of Pakistan. He said that accountability and meritocracy were the two main aspects of good governance and that a government has better chances of succeeding if it has a good accountability process.

The premier reiterated that he wants Pakistan to follow the model of riyasat-e-Madina because it “laid down the foundations of the world’s greatest civilization.”
