LHC Grants Bail To Shehbaz Sharif In Ashiana And Ramzan Sugar Mill Cases
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has on Thursday granted bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scheme and Ramzan Sugar Mill cases.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmad heard the petition filed against the arrest of Shehbaz Sharif. The court first reserved its verdict, but later directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to release him.

NAB had arrested the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly on October 5, 2018 in Ashiana Housing scandal.

On January 22, Shehbaz had filed a bail plea saying that his arrest by the NAB was ‘unlawful’. He added the case against him was establish on ‘political basis’ and that all of his policies as the Punjab Chief Minister were in accordance to the law.

“Not even an inch of official land was given to anyone and LHC should accept my bail plea,” he had mentioned in the petition. The PML-N supremo also said that he would quit politics if corruption worth even a single rupee was proven against him.

Dunya News reported that the National Accountability Bureau plans to challenge LHC’s verdict to grant Shehbaz Sharif bail in the case. The corruption watchdog accuses Shehbaz of misusing his power as Punjab CM.

A NAB inquiry conducted in the case states that Shehbaz as the chief minister of Punjab had unlawfully assumed powers of Board of Directors of Punjab Land and Development Company (PLDC), misused his authority and acted in connivance with Fawad Hassan Fawad who at the time was Secretary Implementation to CM Punjab and others.

The LHC also granted bail to Fawad Hassan Fawad in Ashiana Housing scam.
