Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Karnataka unit chief BS Yeddyurappa has stirred quite a controversy in India by saying that airstrikes in Pakistan will help the party win 22 seats in the upcoming elections.
According to NDTV, the former chief minister commented that the party is in favour of winning 22 of 28 seats in the elections which are going to be held in May.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said he would avenge the killings [in the Pulwama terror attack]. The whole country has welcomed this and so have the opposition parties.”

“The wind is increasingly blowing in favour of the BJP. Yesterday’s (Tuesday’s) action of destroying terror hideouts by entering inside Pakistan has resulted in a pro-Modi wave in the country.”
He added that the airstrikes have filled the youth with enthusiasm and that it will help the party win 22 seats in elections in Lok Sabha in Karnataka.
Owing to outrage and criticism, the BJP leader took to Twitter and said his words were being taken out of context.
“My statement is being reported out of context. I said that ‘situation favourable for BJP’ which i am saying for last couple of months. This is not first time that i said BJP in Karnataka will win minimum 22 seats under the able leadership of Modi ji.”

On Wednesday, two Indian jets were shot down by a vigilant PAF for intruding into Pakistan’s territory. Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was taken into custody.

DG ISPR confirmed the arrest and said that Pakistan aimed peace, but had to respond to Indian aggression. He asked the international community to intervene and help bolster the peace process. Prime Minister Imran Khan also reiterated Pakistan’s peace-friendly stancesaying that war was not the solution to the crisis.
