The National Press Club in Islamabad has barred Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry from entering club premises, an official statement said on Saturday.
The statement said that after consultation with journalist community in Islamabad, the press club has decided to ban entry of Fawad Chaudhry into the premises. NPC President Shakeel Karar made the announcement in a video message.
NPC Secretary Anwar Raza said that journalists and media workers were being subjected to harassment on the basis of a ‘fictious’ media crisis. He said media houses were not paying the workers on time, were making deductions and terminating them citing a financial crunch.

He said journalist community in Islamabad and Rawalpindi strongly condemns the behavior of the government and media owners who pay no heed to the problems faced by the workers. He said the government and media owners have joined hands and created an ‘artificial crisis’.
The NPC said that if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government does not take necessary steps to this end and find solutions to the problems, ‘they and the media owners will be responsible for the circumstances that might develop in near future’.

Fawad was also banned by the Karachi Press Club (KPC) earlier today, while on Wednesday, the Lahore Press Club (LPC) barred the information minister from entering the club premises. Journalists from both the cities cited lay-offs, delays in salaries and criticized the government and media owners.
