'Encouraging': Suman Bodani Becomes Pakistan’s First Female Hindu Judge
Suman Pawan Bodani became the first Hindu Woman to be appointed a judge in Pakistan.

The newly-appointed judge, who belongs to Shahdadkot area in Sindh, stood 54th in the merit list for the appointment of Civil Judge/Judicial Magistrate.

Suman Graduated from Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto University of Law, and recently qualified Commission exam.

She is not the first person from the Hindu community to be appointed as a judge, however. Justice Rana Bhagwandas, a senior judge and former acting chief justice of Pakistan, was the first person from Hindu community to be appointed.


Also in March 2018, Krishna Kumari became the first Hindu Woman to be elected in Senate. She belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Hindus constitute 2 percent of Pakistan’s population and Hinduism is the second largest religion in the country.

Moreover, Pakistan is the fifth largest country home to the Hindu community. By 2050, it is expected to become the fourth largest country containing Hindu population.
