Today marks the 84th birth anniversary of one of Pakistan’s finest cricketers Hanif Mohammad. Born on 21st December 1934 in Junagarh, British India (now Gujrat, India), Hanif migrated to Karachi after partition of the Indian subcontinent.
Hanif was trained by Afghan cricketer Abdul Aziz and went on to make his Test debut in 1952 against arch-rivals India.
Hanif is known as Pakistan's first star, but he was pioneer to a star studded family. Four of his brothers, Wazir Mohammad, Raees Mohammad, Mushtaq Mohammad, Sadiq Mohammad, his son Shoaib Mohammad and grandson Shehzar Mohammad followed into Hanif's footsteps.
During his 55-match Test career, Hanif scored a total of 3,915 runs with an average of 43.98. He also scored 12 centuries and has a high score of 337 against a tough West Indian opposition in 1957/58.
