Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmad has said that the unity of Shia Muslims during the Youm-e-Ali processions across the province brought Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led government 'to its knees'.

According to media reports, the JUI-F leader said the Shia community has paved the way for Sunni Muslims and traders to resume daily life activities and businesses in the province. “Considering the current circumstances, party leadership has conveyed us the message that people shall participate in Ramzan’s last Jumma and Eid-ul-Fitr prayers with full zeal, while ignoring the government restrictions.”

He said that top Islamic scholars Mufti Taqi Usmani and Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman had talks with the government with ‘good intentions’ but the PPP provincial government didn’t honor them and the agreement that was signed between the clerics and the federal government.

On Friday, the government authorities failed to ensure social distancing measures at the mourning processions held to mark Youm-e-Ali across the country. Members of Shia community, including a number of teenagers and women participated in the processions despite the government’s ban on big religious gatherings.

Moreover in Sindh, despite the provincial home department issuing a notification restricting religious gatherings in the province, a large number of people gathered at the Mazar-e-Quaid on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali. On Thursday, Shia religious groups in Sindh had announced that they will commemorate Youm-e-Ali on the 21st of Ramzan ‘come what may’.
