The meeting was held after Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of the alarming situation after three new polio cases were reported in the province.

The health minister said efforts needed to be accelerated in order to control the spread of poliovirus in the province, as the meeting directed the special task committee to ensure polio vaccination.
According to a senior doctor at Khyber Teaching Hospital, disinformation about polio vaccine in the province is causing refusal and thus new cases are being reported. Another reason why the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is unable to take ensure polio eradication is war on terror and unstable situation in the province.
In this scenario, several polio workers have been targeted and killed. There was a time when it was impossible to vaccinate the children in certain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
