Renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani has said that the top clerics during the meeting with President Arif Alvi had agreed on a distance of three feet not six among the worshippers in the mosques.

Mufti Taqi, while speaking in Geo News programme Naya Pakistan on Saturday, said: “Three-foot distance would be maintained between two namazis [worshippers] while a six-foot distance in the lines would be maintained, as discussed in the meeting. Even the World Health Organisation (WHO) called for three feet distance between two persons.”

He said that after the code of conduct, it was the responsibility of the mosque committees and ulema to ensure its implementation in letter and spirit to counter the spread of coronavirus in the mosques. The Mufti further urged all the religious scholars to act responsibly. "The mosques administrations not following the decided Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will themselves responsible for the consequences," he added.

On Saturday, President Arif Alvi held a meeting with the top clerics of the country to discuss social distancing regulations and lockdown policies in the mosques during Ramzan. It was decided that mosques will re-open in the holy month and the congregational prayers will be held under certain conditions.
