The release of Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar has received a polarised response. While some have appreciated that justice has prevailed, others have criticised the move, invoking the legislators’ ‘anti-state’ stance.

Following news of the bail pleas of the MNAs being accepted, there were reportedly celebrations in Waziristan, where the legislators hail from.

Parliamentarians, activists and academics voiced their support for the decision, saying that this was a legal victory for the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement, which the two MNAs are part of.

Former member of parliament, Bushra Gohar, appreciated the legal team of Ali Wazir and Moshin Dawar, and called for those responsible for the Khar Qamar massacre to be held accountable.

Academic Ammar Ali Jan contended that the charges against the MNAs were a form of ‘deliberate misinformation’ and expressed hope that the state would move towards reconciliation.

Meanwhile, Afrasiab Khattak stated that no matter which false case has been made by the ‘selectors and the selected’, the MNAs have been proven innocent by the courts.

Many who support the cause of the two legislators have been waiting for them to be released from jail. Senator Farhatullah Babar stated on Twitter that the two MNAs would soon be attending the assembly sessions and what they say would be of great value.

However, the granting of bail to Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar has not been received favourable by some, who have called into conversation the two legislators’ alleged abuse of the state and incitement of violence.

A Twitter user called the move a ‘surrender’, and that it had only been done so that the prime minister could save himself from criticism when he attends the United Nations General Assembly session.

Another one opined that the two leaders would be facing jail time again as the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement won’t stop with its ‘anti-state’ activities.
