Two soldiers of the Frontier Corps (FC), namely Abdul Latif and Mohammad Sharif, were also injured in the incident and later shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Loralai.
According to official sources, the FC personnel, while manning a checkpoint in the Killi Kawar area on the outskirts of Loralai town near the University of Loralai, signalled two men riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of complying with the orders, they opened fire on the security forces.
Sources said that the suspects made an attempt to escape from the area by taking shelter near a seasonal river. The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers.
During the encounter, one would-be suicide bomber was killed while another detonated his suicide jacket in order to avoid arrest.
According to an official of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), who took part in the operation alongside paramilitary soldiers, both the militants were wearing suicide jackets. He said that it seemed that the terrorists were planning to attack an important place in Loralai. He further said that timely action by the security forces foiled the terror attempt.
After the operation, the security forces seized arms and ammunition, including grenades, AK-47 assault rifles and rounds, from the possession of the attackers. Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad also collected evidence from the site.
It is important to mention here that Loralai has witnessed half a dozen terrorist attacks this year that have killed over a dozen people, including police personnel. The FC training centre, the DIG office and Police Lines were some of the places targeted by terrorists in Loralai.
