ARY News reported that a division bench of the LHC headed by Justice Atir Mahmood heard a petition, demanding a ban on PUBG from Faizan Maqsood – an ordinary citizen – for its ‘negative’ impacts on youth of Pakistan.
The petition said that the game has increased the violent tendencies among the youth and has negatively impacted their decision-making ability. The petition requested the LHC to order the removal of online game from Play Store application across the country.
The court after listening to the arguments directed the PTA to decide on the matter within six weeks.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan would not be the first country to ban the online game if PTA decides in favour of the petition filed in the LHC. In July 2019, Jordan banned the game, citing its ‘negative effects’ on the kingdom’s citizens. Later, Iraq, Nepal, the Indian state of Gujarat and the Indonesian province of Aceh also banned PUBG for the same reasons mentioned above.
