Musharraf's Conviction For High Treason: Pro-Army Banners Emerge Across The Country

Social media is abuzz with reports of pro-military posters propping up on the streets of various cities in Pakistan. This new campaign comes in the backdrop of the recent verdict by a special court against former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf. The judgment had convicted the ex-strongman of high treason, and the detailed verdict went as far as recommending gruesome treatment for him.

Earlier, demonstrations were held in favour of the ousted strongman in Punjab University, evidently with the support of the administration. In addition, some lawyers, journalists and politicians have spoken in favour of General Pervez Musharraf, condemning the superior courts, especially outgoing Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.

The effective campaign against Justice Khosa led to the issuance of an extraordinary press release by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In this press release, Justice Khosa clarified that he was not influencing the special court that convicted General Pervez Musharraf.
